# Common mistakes and questions to ask

Seven mistakes people make when they look for a licensed psilocybin center, and the questions to ask each center before you book a session.

Here are common mistakes people make when they look for a psilocybin center.

**Mistake 1: Thinking psilocybin is legal everywhere.** Psilocybin is illegal under United States federal law. A state licence gives permission inside that state only. It is not a federal exemption, and it does not apply in another state. State programs differ, so read the rules of the state you plan to visit.

**Mistake 2: Not checking the state program.** Each listing names the state program that licensed the center. Oregon centers are licensed by the Oregon Health Authority under ORS 475A. Colorado centers are licensed by the Natural Medicine Division under the Natural Medicine Health Act. If a center cannot name its program and licence, check with the state agency before you book. Not every Oregon licensee is in the public directory, so an absence there is not proof.

**Mistake 3: Assuming every center offers the same services.** Centers differ in what they state they offer. One center may state group sessions only. Another may state individual sessions. Ask what each session includes and how long it lasts.

**Mistake 4: Relying on a missing price.** Most listings show no session price. The state registries do not carry prices. This site never estimates a price. Contact the center and ask for the current fee in writing.

**Mistake 5: Forgetting to verify the licence.** A listing is a public licence record, not an endorsement. Verify every licence with the state agency. In Oregon, use the OHA license-status tool. In Colorado, use the DORA license look-up or the Natural Medicine Division directory.

**Mistake 6: Not reading the source note.** Every listing carries a source note that names the registry and the check date. That note is your starting point for verification. Registry data can change after the check date, so confirm the facts with the center and the state agency.

**Mistake 7: Expecting medical or legal advice from a directory.** This site is an independent directory of licence records. It gives no medical advice, no dosing guidance and no outcome claims. Ask a qualified health professional about your own health. Ask a qualified lawyer about your legal position.

**Questions to ask every center before you book.**

What licence type do you hold, and under which state program?

What services do you offer, and what does a typical session include?

What is your current session price, and what does that fee include?

What is your cancellation policy?

Do you offer sessions in my language?

What accessibility features do your premises have?

How many preparation sessions do you require before a session?

What happens after the session ends?

Contact more than one center and ask the same questions. Compare the answers side by side. Keep each answer in writing.

## Questions

### What is the biggest mistake people make?

Confusing a center that holds a state licence with one that does not. Only Oregon and Colorado run open, licensed programs. A center in any other state has no state licence to show.

### What if a center says it is legal but shows no licence?

Ask which agency issued the licence, then check it with that agency. This site lists only centers that hold a licence from a state program.

> **Not medical or legal advice.** Psilocybin Centers lists facilities that hold a licence from a US state program, such as the Oregon Health Authority or the Colorado Natural Medicine Division. Psilocybin is still illegal under United States federal law, and its legal status differs by state and by city. A listing is a public licence record, not an endorsement. Nothing on this site is medical or legal advice, and no listing makes claims about health outcomes. Verify the licence and the rules with the state agency named on each listing before you decide.
